a5c7b9f00b The first season takes place in 1946, with Peggy Carter having to balance the routine office work she does for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) in New York City with secretly assisting Howard Stark, who finds himself framed for supplying deadly weapons to enemies of the United States. Carter is assisted by Stark's butler, Edwin Jarvis, to find those responsible and dispose of the weapons. In the second season, Carter moves from New York City to Los Angeles to deal with the threats of the new Atomic Age by the Secret Empire in the aftermath of World War II, gaining new friends, a new home, and a potential new love interest. Marvel's Agent Carter, starring Captain America's Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blowshe finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate lifea single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life-Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter. First, I'm a big fan of this show. Peggy Carter is an awesome character, going all the way back to "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Hayley Atwell continues to do a great job. I'm also a fan of Marvel's movies. I appreciate that Marvel is casting actors of varying ethnicities to reflect our country's diversity, i.e. Samuel L. JacksonNick Fury. Where I feel that 'Agent Carter' is falling short however, was evident to me on season 2016's premiere episode. The characters of Peggy Carter and Dr. Jason Wilkes (played by Reggie Austin) find themselves in a romantic kiss in a phone booth at night in 1947 Los Angelesif 1947 Los Angeles was years ahead of the nation, integrated and accepting of interracial romance without any consequences. In reality, such an act would have AND HAS resulted in violence and death to the offending man of color. I understand that the Marvel Universe is fiction however, with the stage set in and around WWII, there has to be some accuracy and plausibility in the story framework, i.e. they aren't depicting Nazi'smisunderstood, nice people. What makes Peggy Carter compelling is that she's a fully capable woman in a man's world of espionage and action. The same should be said for any other 'minority' characters who are to appear, i.e. Dr Jason Wilkes, a black scientist in 1947 America. What made Marvel comics amazing to mea kid was that there was plausible science mixed in to add a 'credibility' to the heroes and heroines, the stories could almost be real, not 'fairytales'. Therefore, I think that if we are to show people of color and/or minorities in this historical setting, we need to see with accuracy what they dealt withpeoplewellwhat they dealt withheroes. This left me expecting more from Marvel, I hope they see this post and understand. American History is already watered down and omits important and embarrassing events that has helped make us who we are… We shouldn't 'change' history to make it 'nicer' or more acceptable to what we 'would have wanted.' After all, some of the original writers of Marvel characters where subjected to racismJewish Americans and used that experiencea basis for some of the experiences their characters would go through. I love the retro theme and Agent Carter herself is just so appealing. Classy, elegant, yet smart and knows how to kick some butt! They've taken a supporting character from the Captain America films and gave her her own world, and its full of adventure! The only thing I don't get is what is Jarvis' motivation for risking life and limb for Ms Carter. It made sense in season 1 when they were both trying to clear Stark's (Jarvis' boss) name, but in season 2 it just seems weird.

But that weird thing aside, the show is great! It's very different from other Marvel shows or movies.

I also like how they are gradually building depth into the character suchwhen they showed a bit of her history back when she was engaged to someone. This makes her more 'real' and humanizes her.
